Launch of the 9th Edition of the President’s Award for Professional Journalist

Algiers, September 7, 2023 – The Algerian Ministry of Communication announced on Thursday the commencement of the 9th edition of the President of the Republic Prize for Professional Journalist. This coveted award, which recognizes excellence in journalism, has become a symbol of journalistic achievement and continues to inspire the nation’s media professionals. The Ministry of Communication has set October 10, 2023, as the deadline for the submission of applications.
In a press release, the Ministry of Communication unveiled the themes chosen for this edition, reflecting the pressing issues facing Algeria today. The themes encompass “The new Algeria and the problem of food and water security,” “The new Algeria: strengthening the capacities and creativity of the youth,” and “Energy security and its geopolitical dimensions.”
The President of the Republic Prize for Professional Journalist is open to candidates in five categories: Written press, Television information, Radio information, Electronic press, and Illustration. This diversity of categories reflects the broad spectrum of journalistic talents and skills in the country.
To be eligible for this prestigious award, candidates must fulfill specific conditions outlined by the Laagab department. They must be of Algerian nationality, possess a minimum of three years of professional journalism experience, and cannot serve as members of the jury. Candidates are allowed to participate in only one category with a single work, except for the illustration category, where multiple works can be submitted. Participation is permitted on both an individual and collective basis.
Winners of the President of the Republic Prize for Professional Journalist are not eligible to compete for three consecutive years, ensuring fairness and equal opportunities for all candidates. Furthermore, submitted works must have been broadcast or published by a national press organization between October 22, 2022, and October 10, 2023.
Candidates are required to submit a comprehensive application package, which includes three copies of their journalistic work, a copy of their national identity card, a copy of their professional card, a work certificate confirming a minimum of three years of journalism practice, and a completed application form available for download on the Ministry of Communication’s website: (https://ministerecommunication.gov.dz).
