Algiers, Algeria | September 26th, 2024 — In a heartfelt and urgent appeal for humanitarian assistance, Amin Salam, Lebanon’s Minister of Economy and Trade within the caretaker government, has formally reached out to Algeria, requesting critical support in furnishing shelters established for those displaced by the relentless Zionist bombardments. This call for help arises as Lebanon faces the profound and devastating consequences of recent military offensives.
As reported by the Lebanese News Agency, Minister Salam engaged in discussions with Algerian Ambassador Rachid Belbaki during a visit to the embassy, aimed at garnering essential support for the individuals displaced by the escalating violence. In their conversation, Salam painted a stark picture of the unfolding crisis in Lebanon, accentuating the urgent requirement for adequate facilities to accommodate displaced families, as well as access to vital daily necessities.
The report delineates Salam’s specific requests for assistance in improving and equipping the currently operational shelters, which include schools and various buildings designated to aid those in need. Of particular note is the “Quality Inn” hotel, situated at the Rachid Karamé International Exhibition Center in Tripoli—a vast facility covering one million square meters and integral to providing refuge for displaced families.
In his remarks, Salam expressed heartfelt gratitude to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and the Algerian populace for their rapid response in dispatching fuel aid to Lebanon last month, a timely gesture that helped avert a looming power crisis. This act of solidarity exemplifies the profound and enduring ties between Algeria and Lebanon, rooted in mutual values and a steadfast commitment to assist one another in challenging times.
Ambassador Belbaki responded to Salam’s appeal with appreciation, acknowledging the significance of the Minister’s visit and the trust bestowed upon the Algerian state and its people. He reaffirmed Algeria’s unwavering commitment to standing in solidarity with Lebanon, asserting, “We are children of Arab unity and are always devoted to supporting Lebanon.”
