Libyan Transport Minister Expresses Profound Gratitude to Algerian People and Leaders for Vital Support in Wake of Devastating Floods

Tripoli, Libya – September 13, 2023– In a heartfelt expression of appreciation and solidarity, the Libyan Minister of Transport, Mohamed Selem Al-Chahoubi, conveyed his deep gratitude to the people and leaders of Algeria for their unwavering support during the aftermath of the catastrophic floods that wreaked havoc in Libya, leaving a trail of destruction, loss of life, and suffering in its wake.
The Minister’s heartfelt sentiments were shared during a pivotal meeting held following an audience granted by the President of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed Younes El-Menfi, with key dignitaries, including the Minister of Interior, Local Assemblies, and Territorial Planning, Brahim Merad; the Minister of Health, Abdelhak Saihi; the Minister of National Solidarity, Family, and the Status of Women, Kaouter Krikou; and the President of the Algerian Red Crescent (CRA), Ibtissam Hamlaoui.
Minister Al-Chahoubi extended his heartfelt thanks to the Algerian leadership, government, and the people at large for their immediate and invaluable support to the Libyan people during their hour of need. He specifically highlighted the arrival of a fleet of planes that brought fully equipped rescue teams, showcasing the deep bonds of brotherhood between the two nations.
“The Algerian people, government, and leaders have always been there to help their Libyan brothers. We consider Algeria as our big sister, united by a shared destiny,” Minister Al-Chahoubi affirmed, emphasizing the profound connection that binds the two nations.
Minister Merad, in turn, underscored the urgency of Algeria’s response, acting on the directives of the Algerian President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune. He explained that President Tebboune had dispatched the ministerial delegation to convey condolences to the Libyan President, government, and the people and emphasized Algeria’s commitment to extend further assistance whenever it was required.
“As a sign of our unwavering solidarity, President Tebboune stands ready to provide additional assistance should our Libyan brothers request it,” Minister Merad pledged.
It is worth recalling that the Algerian delegation arrived in Tripoli promptly, in line with President Tebboune’s directives to provide urgent and substantial humanitarian aid to the distressed regions of Libya following the catastrophic floods.
During their visit, the Algerian delegation conveyed heartfelt condolences from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the Algerian government, and the Algerian people to their Libyan counterparts, expressing sympathy and solidarity in the face of the devastating floods that had afflicted several Libyan cities.
This visit underscored Algeria’s unwavering commitment to its Libyan brother country, emphasizing its readiness to provide necessary aid to help overcome the dire aftermath of the floods. The Ministry of the Interior in Algeria promptly initiated operations to transport humanitarian aid to Libya through an airlift, an essential gesture of support and solidarity as both nations work together to rebuild and heal.
As the Libyan and Algerian peoples come together in this challenging time, the bonds of solidarity between these neighboring nations grow stronger, exemplifying the enduring spirit of brotherhood that transcends borders in times of adversity.
