ALGIERS-  The President of the Hydrocarbons Regulatory Authority (ARH), Rachid Nadil announced that the fleet of vehicles running on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in Algeria will amount to nearly one million vehicles by the end of 2023, after the conversion of 100,000 vehicles during the year 2022, as part of the national program to promote this fuel.

In an interview with APS, Mr. Nadil indicated that “the rate of conversion of vehicles to LPG-fuel (LPG-c) is in clear evolution, with more than 850,000 vehicles converted since the start of this operation in Algeria, i.e. an average of up to 100,000 vehicles per year and a cost of 70,000 DA/vehicle”, indicating 1,285 points of sale for this fuel at the national level.

In 2022, the conversion of 100,000 vehicles saved 900,000 tonnes of gasoline, according to the same official.

Among the incentive measures for the adoption of this measure, it is worth mentioning the exemption of the car sticker ‘vignette’ for converted vehicles, the reduction of value added tax VAT (9%), in addition to a significant difference between the price at the pump of gasoline and that of LPG-c.

According to Mr. Nadil, the ARH aspires to increase this figure, through the intensification of awareness campaigns for the benefit of citizens, in addition to the reduction of the costs of the kit and its assembly, in order to encourage the use LPG-c which saves considerable amounts of gasoline, in addition to preserving the environment.
