Launched on July 1, the inquiry has raised suspicions regarding misconduct over the past two Olympic cycles, implicating 14 prominent figures within the federation.
Led by the national economic and financial penal pole, the investigation has already resulted in the detention of two former secretaries-general, Mohamed Saâd and Mounir D’bichi, along with Abdelghani Nekkache, the former director of general administration. Additionally, two former federal bureau members, Abdellah Keddah and Larbi Oumamar, are currently under judicial supervision as the inquiry progresses.
As the investigation unfolds, three former presidents of the FAF—Kheireddine Zetchi, Charaf-Eddine Amara, and Djahid Zefizef—are slated to face an investigative judge tomorrow. This critical hearing follows a prior session that focused exclusively on the former secretaries-general and additional officials from the FAF.
According to a statement released by the public prosecutor on July 1, the accusations made against the former presidents and officials involve “entering into contracts that contravene internal regulations, designed to provide unjustified advantages to third parties, resulting in the misappropriation of public funds from both the FAF and the national treasury.”
The consequences of this investigation extend far beyond individual accountability. In a significant move toward restoring integrity, the General Financial Inspectorate is set to commence audits of professional clubs in the coming week, concentrating on the first division league. This initiative aims to uncover financial discrepancies and re-establish trust in Algerian football.
