ALGIERS- In a continuing saga of the Marocgate scandal, which unfolded a year ago, new revelations have emerged as Belgian investigators questioned Abderrahim Atmoun, the Moroccan ambassador to Warsaw, according to reports from the Belgian public broadcaster RTBF. Atmoun, a key figure in the corruption scandal, is said to have been closely associated with Pier Antonio Panzeri, a corrupt Member of the European Parliament (MEP) responsible for operations accused of interfering within the Parliament.

The Marocgate scandal centers around accusations of corruption involving the Makhzen regime, with Euro MPs being influenced and compromised. The latest developments shed light on the diplomatic entanglements and connections to the Moroccan intelligence agency, the DGED, led by Yassine Mansouri.

As the investigation unfolds, the Belgian authorities delve deeper into the relationships and activities that link diplomatic figures, intelligence agencies, and corrupt MEPs.

Belgian authorities had previously issued a national notice for the arrest of Abderrahim Atmoun in January, according to police reports. The arrest warrant is part of a broader investigation into corruption within the European Parliament, marking one of the most serious scandals to hit EU institutions in decades. The accusations involve the transfer of funds to members of the European Parliament in exchange for political favors.
