Mass distribution: Auchan Retail sets up in Algeria

ALGIERS- Auchan Retail is expanding its reach on the African continent, following its successful ventures in Senegal and Ivory Coast. The brand has announced its upcoming establishment in Algeria, in a press release posted on its website on May 15.

The announcement revealed that Auchan has entered into a global partnership with the Great Way Group, and has signed an agreement in Algeria with the same group. The first store is set to open in Algiers in the fourth quarter of 2023, covering an area of 5000m2. The statement added that further development across the country is already being considered, without giving further details. The Algiers store will be managed by the Great Way Group, a major trade player in the Maghreb.

Great Way is an Algerian distribution group with 80 world-renowned brand stores in the textile and sports sectors, located in the main cities of the country, and employing 1,400 employees. The partnership between Auchan and the Great Way Group aims to offer Algerians an exclusive and qualitative offer accessible at the fairest price in a modernized shopping route.

Algeria is the fourteenth country in which Auchan is established in the world and the third in Africa, after Senegal (37 stores) and Côte d’Ivoire (13 points of sale). This expansion is a testament to Auchan’s commitment to providing quality products and services to customers across the globe.
