Massive Bombing in Gaza: Over 100 Martyred in School Attack During Fajr Prayer

Algiers, Algeria | August 10th, 2024 — On the 309th day of the ongoing aggression against Gaza, Zionist forces launched a devastating airstrike on the Al-Tabe’in school in the Al-Daraj neighborhood. The strike, which occurred during the Fajr prayer, resulted in the martyrdom of over 100 individuals and inflicted severe casualties on dozens more.

The Gaza Government Press Office reported that the assault involved three missiles, each approximately 2,000 pounds, targeting the school while its occupants were engaged in their morning prayers. The timing of the bombing exacerbated the loss of life, as it began right at the onset of the prayer.

The severity of the attack has severely hampered rescue operations, with medical and emergency teams struggling to manage the aftermath. Ismail Thawabta, Director General of the Gaza Government Press Office, condemned the Zionist military’s attempt to justify the attack, asserting that the school’s role as a shelter for displaced families was well-known.

Mahmoud Bassal, spokesperson for Gaza’s civil defense, indicated that the majority of those present at the school during the attack were martyred, with injuries sustained by survivors being predominantly severe. The school was housing over 2,000 displaced individuals from various parts of Gaza, making the assault particularly tragic.

This incident marks the fifth attack on shelters for displaced persons within a two-week period. Emergency response teams are actively transporting the victims to Al-Mamdani Hospital and other local health facilities. In response, Hamas has condemned the attack as a horrific escalation of war crimes, criticizing the Zionist government’s justifications and pointing to U.S. support as a factor in the ongoing violence.
