The 19th edition of the Mediterranean Games-2022 in Oran, which ended on Wednesday evening with a grandiose ceremony at the Miloud Hadefi Olympic complex stadium, was a “total success” after 12 days of competitions marked by record crowds at the competition sites, noted unanimously the national press published on Thursday.
“Algeria, mission accomplished” (El Moudjahid), “Oran has kept all its promises” (El Watan), “Oran, the edition of all records” (Le Soir), “The edition of Oran: the public creates the event” (Echourouk) are so many titles crossing the front pages of the daily newspapers which agree, as a whole, to underline the great success recorded by the games of Oran (June 25-July 6) and the “bet won ” of the Algerian authorities who took up the challenge of hosting the 19th edition of the JM in the best conditions after the Covid-19 pandemic which hit the world.
“Peace and friendship are among the main messages passed on during the World Youth Day in Oran. The President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, has always wanted to promote these two values. And sport is one of the essential vectors for their dissemination. with the hope that they can spread in the parts of the globe”, writes El Moudjahid who devoted this Thursday, to the JM of Oran, four central pages in his column The event.
For its part, El Watan notes, under the title “Oran kept all its promises” that Algeria recorded during these games, “its best scores in individual sports, in particular boxing and athletics, two historically purveyors of medals”. The newspaper also notes the “satisfaction” of the president of the International Committee for Mediterranean Games (CIJM), the Italian Davide Tizzano, who emphasized “the quality of the sports infrastructures” and the “appreciable level” which characterized certain disciplines which marked the presence of several Olympic athletes.
The daily Le Soir highlights the “records” of all kinds, recorded by Algeria during the 19th edition of Oran: record of medals (53 medals including 20 gold) since its first participation in the JM- 1967 of Tunis, attendance record in competition sites, etc.
The contribution of the public to the success of WYD-2022 has been highlighted by the various media. The daily Echourouk considers that “the public created the event, as noted by the Commissioner of the Games, Mohamed Aziz Derouaz and the President of the CIJM, Davide Tizzano.
Under the title “Oran seduces hearts and wins the bet” Al Khabar underlines “the success of the games of Oran, in the opinion of the participants of all the delegations and the international committee of the Mediterranean games”, adding that the Algeria has succeeded in taking up the challenge, by demonstrating its great capacities for organizing major events such as WYD-2022, whose many high-end infrastructures built on this occasion will be beneficial in many respects for the wilaya of Oran. .
The 19th Mediterranean Games in Oran, which ended on Wednesday evening, crowned Italy with a total of 159 medals (48 gold, 50 silver and 61 bronze), ahead of Turkey with 108 medals (45 gold, 26 silver, 37 bronze) , France with 81 (21 gold, 24 silver, 36 bronze).
Algeria finished in 4th position with a harvest of 53 consecrations (20 gold, 17 silver and 16 bronze).
