ALGIERS, August 9, 2023 – The Minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production, Ali Aoun, embarked on a working visit to Tizi-Ouzou today, placing the spotlight on the future of the national household appliance giant, Eniem. Addressing the company’s challenges head-on, Minister Aoun emphasized that the Algerian government remains steadfast in its determination to rejuvenate Eniem, and he outlined key conditions that must be met to pave the way for its successful revival.
With Eniem facing pressing financial concerns, Minister Aoun wasted no time in engaging with the company’s executives and employees to devise a strategy aimed at salvaging the struggling enterprise. Cognizant of the magnitude of the task at hand, Aoun acknowledged, “We have met with the executives and employees of this company to try to save what we can,” underscoring the company’s considerable debt.
The minister emphasized that Eniem’s reinvigoration is indeed feasible, but it hinges on specific requisites, most notably the collective effort of its workforce. As of September, an innovative approach will be introduced, wherein all company executives will be held to performance contracts. Minister Aoun stressed the paramount importance of establishing clear objectives and leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit within designated timelines.
“I want to reassure everyone that the State will not easily relinquish Eniem,” Ali Aoun affirmed resolutely. However, he underlined that the onus of revival lies squarely on the shoulders of both the company’s management and its dedicated employees. To expedite this endeavor, a comprehensive recovery blueprint for Eniem will be meticulously crafted during an imminent meeting scheduled for August 14. This pivotal gathering will bring together the company’s CEO, alongside union representatives, at the ministerial department’s headquarters.
The minister’s visit to Eniem has not only reinforced the government’s commitment to supporting the Algerian industrial sector but has also underscored the critical role that Eniem plays in the country’s economic fabric. As one of the pioneering manufacturers of household appliances, Eniem’s resurgence could serve as a testament to Algeria’s unwavering determination to navigate through challenging economic landscapes.
