Algiers, Algeria | July 23rd, 2024 — In a significant move to rejuvenate Algeria’s industrial landscape, Ali Aoun, the Minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production, announced on Monday the successful recovery of approximately fifteen abandoned factories. This initiative, unveiled during a visit to Mostaganem alongside Minister of Transport Mohamed Habib Zahana, is part of a comprehensive program designed to reclaim misappropriated funds and revitalize the nation’s industrial sector.
The state’s action represents a direct response to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s commitment to addressing financial misconduct and restoring stolen assets. “The state has reclaimed a dozen factories, redirecting them to entities that will utilize them effectively,” Aoun stated, highlighting the broader goal of returning these resources to productive use. The recovered assets, which include billions in looted funds, are expected to play a pivotal role in revitalizing the industrial sector.
A key development in this initiative is the handover of an industrial unit to a national public works company. This factory, which had been abandoned for over a year, is now poised to resume operations under new management. Minister Aoun emphasized the strategic plan for this facility, including the implementation of a new management style and integration with environmental guidelines. The factory is expected to start supplying materials and pipes for ongoing projects by the end of August, particularly supporting Cosider and irrigation-related organizations.
The revitalized factory, equipped with advanced technology and situated on a 12-hectare site, specializes in producing large-diameter pipes. It is projected to expand its operations in partnership with the National Irrigation and Water Drainage Office. Once fully operational, the facility has the potential to create up to 360 jobs. The National Public Works Company has already initiated the reactivation process by recalling 100 former employees.
Minister Aoun also outlined plans for future inspections, including the development of Mostaganem Airport and the Sayada base for medical evacuations and firefighting efforts. These inspections will further support the government’s broader objectives of infrastructure development and enhanced emergency response capabilities.
In conclusion, the recovery and reopening of these industrial facilities mark a crucial step in the Algerian government’s efforts to restore economic stability and boost industrial productivity. By focusing on reclaiming stolen assets and revitalizing abandoned projects, the state is not only aiming to enhance its industrial sector but also to generate significant employment opportunities, aligning with its overarching economic and development strategies.
