Minister Ali Aoun Welcomes Iveco Delegation to Discuss Vehicle Manufacturing in Algeria

Algiers, Algeria | October 8th, 2024 — On October 8, 2024, Algerian Minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production, Ali Aoun, held a meeting in Algiers with a delegation from the Italian automotive group Iveco. The delegation was led by Carmelo Impelluso, Regional Director of Iveco for North Africa and the Middle East, alongside Alberto Cutillo, Italy’s Ambassador to Algeria. The discussions centered on the ambitious project aimed at establishing a manufacturing facility for medium and heavy utility vehicles in Algeria.

The Italian partner presented their strategy, which focuses initially on fulfilling the needs of the Algerian market before expanding towards export opportunities. This phased approach underscores the commitment of Iveco to adapt to local demands while eventually positioning itself as a competitive player in regional and global markets.

Minister Aoun expressed his appreciation for the bilateral relations between Algeria and Italy, emphasizing the importance of developing a robust automotive industry grounded in local integration. He stressed the necessity of engaging Algerian subcontractors to foster domestic economic growth and urged adherence to regulatory requirements to expedite the commencement of this manufacturing initiative.

This collaboration marks a significant step towards advancing Algeria’s industrial capabilities, paving the way for a self-sufficient automotive sector that could enhance job creation and technological development in the country.
