ALGIERS- November 12, 2023- In a meeting on Sunday in Algiers, Mr. Ali Aoun, the Minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production, welcomed Mr. Nassim Ben Gherghouri, the CEO of the Hallil Group and Opel Algeria, as they discussed the upcoming launch of German automaker Opel’s models in Algeria, scheduled for next Wednesday.
The meeting, as stated in a ministry press release, primarily revolved around the Opel models that are set to hit the Algerian market. During the discussions, Minister Aoun emphasized the need for a reassessment of the proposed prices by the German automaker.
“The minister pointed out that the prices of the models offered for sale are on the rise and insisted on their revision to make them affordable for the middle class,” stated the press release.
Minister Aoun further stressed the importance of introducing the Opel Corsa, a subcompact car known for its affordability, into the Algerian market.
In response, Mr. Ben Gherghouri assured that a substantial number of Opel vehicles, totaling no less than 4000 units, will be imported into the country by the year’s end.
This development comes at a time when the automotive market in Algeria is undergoing changes with the introduction of new models. Minister Aoun’s emphasis on affordability aligns with the broader goal of making quality vehicles accessible to a wider segment of the Algerian population, particularly the middle class.
