Minister Aoun’s Vision for Economic Revitalization in Annaba: Strengthening El-Hadjar Production, Creating Industrial Zone

ALGIERS- Minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production, Ali Aoun, visited the Annaba province, emphasizing two crucial aspects for the region’s economic development: reinforcing the El-Hadjar steel complex’s activity and reclaiming state economic land.
The recovery of state economic land has become a pivotal strategy for the Algerian government, aiming to revitalize the nation’s economic activity. According to Aoun, more than 6000 hectares have been recovered so far, signifying the government’s commitment to this initiative.
Aoun, appointed by the president to oversee this operation, visited Annaba to assess the progress of reclaiming economic land around the El-Hadjar steel complex, spanning 200 hectares. He highlighted the necessity of facilitating access to industrial land for economic actors, and this specific area will be reserved for new investment projects to generate wealth and added value.
“The priority in exploiting and valorizing this significant land, recovered near the complex, will be given to structuring investments related to the steel industry branches,” Aoun affirmed. This strategic approach aims to establish an integrated industrial fabric near the El-Hadjar complex, reducing transportation costs.
In addition to land recovery, the minister emphasized the need to enhance the economic performance of the El-Hadjar steel complex, which has received repeated financial support from the state. Aoun stated that the complex, once the jewel of the country’s steel industry, must reclaim its prominent position. He stressed the coordination of efforts to enable the group to align with the economic sector’s dynamics and become a key player.
To achieve this, Aoun called for maximizing the complex’s production capacity, ensuring optimal utilization of available resources. “It is necessary to exploit all the production capacities of the complex to keep pace with structuring projects, especially in the energy sector. Simultaneously, efforts should focus on improving the complex’s profitability by controlling production costs, reducing expenses, and saving on coal consumption,” he explained.
After years of stagnation, the complex’s production is on an upward trajectory, with the group aiming to double production during the current fiscal year, reaching 600,000 tons of various steel products. This positive trend follows the restart of the second furnace in mid-December.
