Algiers- Algeria, May 14, 2024 – Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, hosted a meeting on Tuesday at the ministry’s headquarters with the Secretary General (SG) of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), Mohamed Hamel. The meeting aimed to reaffirm GECF’s appreciation for Algeria’s successful hosting of the 7th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the organization, according to a statement from the ministry.
Attended by officials from the General Secretariat of the Forum, the Director of the Gas Research Institute (GRI), as well as officials from the ministry and Sonatrach Group, the meeting saw the SG of the GECF express his congratulations and gratitude to Algeria for the successful summit. He praised the efforts of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune in ensuring the summit’s success and its fruitful outcomes, as outlined in the Algiers Declaration.
Hamel’s visit to Algeria aimed at strengthening the legal and regulatory frameworks of the GRI, headquartered in Algiers. This includes the application and implementation of GRI policies, managing its affairs, and developing plans and programs for scientific and technological cooperation. The cooperation will involve information exchange, innovation, best practices, training, and technology transfer across the gas value chain.
To advance these goals, a specialized working group comprising sector officials and the General Secretariat of the GECF will be formed. The group’s objective will be to develop a roadmap for implementing the agreed-upon initiatives.
