Algiers, Algeria | October 14th, 2024 — On Monday, the Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, convened at the “Mohamed Ben Ahmed” Conference Center in Oran to engage in discussions about potential energy cooperation with John Ardill, Vice President of ExxonMobil for Exploration and Production, and his delegation. The talks concentrated on exploring partnership and investment opportunities, particularly emphasizing ongoing consultations between Sonatrach and ExxonMobil regarding hydrocarbon development, especially in the upstream oil and gas sectors.
A statement from the ministry highlighted the essential nature of collaboration in knowledge exchange and expertise transfer, which are critical for enhancing Algeria’s energy capabilities. The meeting was attended by prominent figures, including the President of the National Agency for the Valorization of Hydrocarbon Resources and the Directors General of Sonatrach and Sonelgaz, as well as several officials from the sector.
In a related engagement, Minister Arkab also met with Sameh Sabry, Vice President for North Africa and the Middle East at Harbour Energy (formerly Wintershall Dea), along with his accompanying delegation. Their discussions revolved around cooperation and investment prospects in the energy sector, with a particular focus on development opportunities. Harbour Energy expressed a keen interest in expanding its footprint in Algeria, especially in hydrocarbon exploration and the development and exploitation of natural gas fields in partnership with Sonatrach.
The dialogue further explored critical investment opportunities within the oil and gas industries, addressing pivotal topics such as emissions reduction, carbon capture and storage, and strategies for minimizing carbon footprints. These discussions took place just moments before the commencement of the 12th edition of the Africa & Mediterranean Energy & Hydrogen Exhibition and Conference (NAPEC 2024), which aims to unite various stakeholders in the energy sector across the region.
