ALGIERS- Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, met with Mr. Florian Armacura, Head of the North Africa Department at the European Union Neighborhood Directorate, on Wednesday, as announced by the ministry in a press release.
During the meeting, the two parties discussed bilateral relations and avenues for strengthening them within the framework of the strategic dialogue between Algeria and the European Union in the energy sector.
The progress in bilateral energy cooperation was reviewed, and both sides delved into the prospects for further collaboration, particularly in the areas of natural gas supply to Europe, renewable energies, hydrogen development, energy transition, energy efficiency, and the promotion and support of investments in these domains.
Electric interconnection between Algeria and Europe and the South H2 Corridor on the agenda
The discussions also encompassed the marketing of natural gas, methane emission reduction in the gas industry, and the electrical interconnection between Algeria and European Union countries.
The South H2 Corridor project, aimed at connecting Algeria and Europe via Italy, Germany, and Austria for future hydrogen export, was also a focal point of the talks.
During the meeting, Minister Arkab provided an overview of various sector programs aimed at developing new and renewable energies, enhancing natural gas and electricity production, and seawater desalination.
He commended the progress in partnership processes, especially the regular expert meetings contributing to improved mutual understanding on matters of common interest.
Algeria: A Strategic and Reliable Partner for Europe
Both parties explored avenues to expand cooperation in the exploration, production, and use of rare mineral resources, particularly those used in the components industry for generating or storing renewable energies.
Mr. Armacura expressed satisfaction with the progress made and emphasized the need to continue the strategic dialogue and partnership with Algeria. He highlighted Algeria as a strategic and reliable partner for the European Union, especially in terms of energy supply, particularly natural gas.
