ALGIERS- Algeria’s Minister of Energy and Mines, Mr. Mohamed Arkab, held a meeting on Tuesday in Algiers with members of both chambers of Parliament representing the electoral district “Wilaya” of Laghouat. During the meeting, the delegation shared their concerns regarding energy connectivity in the regions of Laghouat, particularly in new agglomerations, according to a statement from the Ministry.

The parliamentary delegation, including members Mohamed Khouildi, Khelifa Benslimane, Belmouaze Belkassem, Tayeb Ramdani, and Bessas Messaoud, raised issues related to energy and mining, with a specific focus on the energy connection of various regions in the province. The concerns encompassed new rural and urban areas, agricultural operations, and the feasibility of transferring medium-voltage lines. Additionally, discussions involved the establishment of new commercial agencies for Sonelgaz.

The delegation also discussed the potential relocation of the gas canister storage facility owned by Naftal to the newly designated province of Aflou. They explored the possibility of providing propane gas tanks to isolated areas.

Several investment projects in the province were brought up, including solar power plants, gas-related initiatives, social investment plans, the establishment of new gas stations, and the rehabilitation of existing ones in Aflou. The expansion of distribution capacities for Sirgaz was also addressed.

Minister Arkab highlighted significant energy projects in Laghouat, such as the Gueltet Sidi Saad (200 MW) and Hassi Delaa (300 MW) solar power plants. He mentioned that 1,683 agricultural operations have already been connected, with plans to connect the remaining ones.

At the end of the meeting, Minister Arkab provided further details on the discussed issues, emphasizing the sector’s commitment to addressing legitimate concerns. The goal is to enhance citizens’ living standards, create job opportunities, and improve public services, especially in areas falling under the purview of the Energy and Mines sector, as per the statement.
