Algiers, Algeria | February 12th, 2025 — In a new diplomatic engagement, Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, participated in the opening of the 46th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union (AU) in Addis Ababa.
The high-level ministerial meeting, convened in preparation for the upcoming AU Summit scheduled for February 15-16, 2025, brings together the foreign ministers of AU member states to deliberate on crucial institutional and geopolitical matters shaping the future of the continent.
Central to the agenda are discussions on the renewal of key AU bodies, including the Commission and the Peace and Security Council, institutions that are instrumental in addressing Africa’s security, governance, and developmental challenges. Algeria, known for its unwavering commitment to African solidarity and stability, is expected to play a strategic role in advocating for a robust and effective AU architecture that serves the collective interests of the continent.
In addition to institutional reforms, the Executive Council will focus on pressing issues of peace, security, and sustainable development across Africa. Given the continent’s complex and evolving geopolitical landscape, Algeria’s diplomatic engagement in these discussions is crucial, particularly in fostering African-led solutions to conflicts, promoting economic integration, and reinforcing multilateral cooperation.
Algeria has consistently demonstrated leadership in African diplomatic efforts, advocating for peace and security mechanisms that prioritize regional stability. The country’s proactive stance in conflict resolution, counterterrorism initiatives, and economic partnerships underscores its commitment to shaping a resilient and prosperous Africa.
