ALGIERS- Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, held discussions with several of his African counterparts in Addis Ababa on Wednesday, on the sidelines of his participation as the representative of the President of the Republic at the 44th ordinary session of the African Union Executive Council.

Initially, Attaf met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation for Development of the Republic of Burundi, Mr. Albert Shingiro. The discussions between the two sides revolved around reviewing the current state of relations between their respective countries and exploring avenues to bolster them, particularly in preparation for future bilateral elections. They emphasized the importance of exchanging support and coordinating positions in various international and regional forums.

Continuing his diplomatic engagements, Attaf also held talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of South Sudan, Mr. James Betia Morgan. The discussions centered on means to consolidate bilateral relations between Algeria and South Sudan. Attaf reaffirmed Algeria’s unwavering commitment to supporting the establishment of security and enhancing stability in South Sudan, both through its position as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council and its membership in the African Union High-Level Interim Committee on South Sudan (the C5 Committee).

Additionally, Attaf engaged with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mr. Yusuf Maitama Togar, to deliberate on the agenda items of the Council. The two parties exchanged views on the evolving situation in the Sahel-Saharan region, underscoring the importance of promoting peaceful solutions to address crises and conflicts.

These meetings underscore Algeria’s commitment to fostering robust diplomatic ties with African nations and advancing regional cooperation for peace, security, and development across the continent. As Algeria continues to play an active role in African affairs, such engagements serve to strengthen solidarity and collaboration among African nations towards shared goals of prosperity and stability.
