Minister Cherfa Installs New Officials to Strengthen Agriculture, Forestry Sectors

Algiers, Algeria | July 21st, 2024 — In a move to bolster the administration of Algeria’s agricultural and forestry sectors, Youcef Cherfa, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, presided over a ceremony on Sunday to install new senior officials within the central administration and the General Directorate of Forests (DGF).

Key Appointments and Leadership Changes

The ceremony, held at the Ministry of Agriculture, saw the appointment of several new key officials. Notably, Nadjib Zerrouki was installed as the Inspector General of the Ministry, Messaoud Bendridi took on the role of Director General of Agricultural Production, and Ali Si was appointed Director of Wildlife and Flora Protection at the DGF. Additionally, six deputy directors at the Ministry and four deputy directors at the DGF were also formally introduced to their new roles.

Addressing Agricultural Challenges

In his address, Cherfa emphasized the sector’s critical challenges and the strategic vision needed to address them. Key points included:

• Expansion of Investment in Southern Wilayas: Cherfa outlined a new strategic approach to enhance agricultural investments in southern regions of Algeria. This initiative aims to maximize the use of available resources and promote sustainable agricultural development in these less-developed areas.
• Preservation of National Natural Heritage: The Minister underscored the importance of the agricultural sector in protecting and sustainably managing the country’s natural resources. This involves efforts to safeguard Algeria’s diverse flora and fauna while promoting responsible land use practices.

Recognition of Forest and Census Agents

Cherfa also took the opportunity to honor the dedicated work of forest agents and census workers. He acknowledged their significant contributions to preserving Algeria’s forest wealth and their crucial role in the General Agricultural Census. The recognition highlights the importance of their efforts in maintaining the country’s environmental and agricultural integrity.
