ALGIERS- The Minister of Communication, Dr. Mohamed Laâgab, attended a training session for fourteen journalists and correspondents from several African countries, held on Sunday at the headquarters of the National Bank of Housing in Algiers.
Organized by the Algerian Agency for International Cooperation for Solidarity and Development in collaboration with the Algerian Radio, this training focuses on presenting Algeria in terms of media and economy, and its special relations with other states on the African continent.
The Minister of Communication emphasized the role of the media in bringing peoples together. He warned against manipulations and fake news, especially in the current context marked by geopolitical changes in the region. He deemed it important to understand them as they have an impact on many African countries and also influence international relations.
The Minister underscored the crucial role of the media in raising awareness about the cultures and achievements of Africa. He asserted, “the media must rise to the economic challenges to be the engine of change.”
Mohamed Laâgab affirmed that “Algeria is and will remain an anchor point for Africa.” He recalled that approximately 65,000 students from various African countries have completed their university studies in Algeria since 1962.
The Ministry of Communication recently launched an intensive training program covering areas such as sports journalism, economics, and stock market issues. Some 300 journalists were trained in anticipation of the 7th Summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, to be hosted by Algeria from February 29 to March 2, 2024.
The Director-General of the Algerian Agency for International Cooperation, Mr. Abed Halouz, stated that this session aims to strengthen capacities and promote the exchange of experiences among African journalists.
On his part, the Director-General of the Algerian Radio, Mr. Mohamed Beghali, stated that this session confirms that “Africa for Algeria is not simply a matter of interests, but a conviction and belief.”
