ALGIERS- In a significant development, Minister of Communication Mohamed Laagab expressed the need to extend gratitude to the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, for his decisive push to enact all media laws approved by the parliament. His comments followed the parliamentary approval of two bills related to electronic and print media, as well as audiovisual media.
Addressing the members of the People’s National Assembly (Parliament), Laagab commended their approval of the outstanding legislation, emphasizing the importance of acknowledging the President’s firm commitment to the issuance of all media laws that garnered parliamentary approval.
“I can say that you have endorsed an excellent law, and thanks should be extended to the President, who urged the issuance of all media laws that you have approved,” stated the Minister.
The foremost authority in the media sector added that history will remember the parliament positively for its diligence in providing the media with this significant, clear, and precise law. He highlighted that the new media law will act as a deterrent against corrupt financial practices, closing the door on monopolies.
Furthermore, the Minister emphasized that the new media law grants regulatory authority to accompany media content and advertising. It represents a milestone achievement in the effort to combat corruption and ensure transparency in the media landscape.
The enacted laws are expected to strengthen the media sector’s integrity, foster responsible journalism, and contribute to creating a fair and accountable media environment.
