Minister Mohamed Arkab Launches Major Phosphate Exploitation and Chemical Transformation Project in Tébessa

Algiers, Algeria | November 16th, 2024 — On Saturday, Mohamed Arkab, the Minister of Energy and Mines, arrived in Tébessa to oversee the launch of the integrated project for the exploitation and chemical transformation of phosphate. The project, which is set to revolutionize the country’s mining sector, aims to develop Algeria’s abundant phosphate resources and strengthen their role in the nation’s economic and social development.

Accompanying Minister Arkab on the visit were key figures in the Algerian energy and mining sectors, including Rachid Hachichi, the CEO of Sonatrach, Belkacem Soltani, the newly appointed CEO of Sonarem, and the heads of the Geological Service of Algeria and the National Agency for Mining Activities. Together, they reviewed the scope of the project, which is expected to create significant economic benefits, from job creation to the strengthening of Algeria’s industrial and export capabilities.
