Algiers, Algeria | January 10th, 2025 — Minister of Communication Mohamed Meziane reaffirmed, on Thursday in Algiers, the sector’s firm commitment to achieving digital transformation and ensuring the media actively contributes to national development with professionalism.
During a public session at the People’s National Assembly dedicated to oral questions, the minister stressed that the ministry is focused on “keeping pace with rapid technological advancements to meet the demands of digital transformation through a comprehensive strategy aimed at modernizing and expanding the digital infrastructure of media institutions to improve service quality and strengthen their digital presence.”
Detailing this forward-looking approach, Meziane highlighted that the ministry has developed a “satellite broadcasting strategy to enhance Algeria’s capacity to disseminate its media content internationally, while simultaneously expanding its digital presence through the use of available digital platforms.”
The minister further underscored the sector’s commitment to implementing state policies aimed at establishing “a dynamic and influential media landscape,” primarily by “creating a supportive legal framework, modern infrastructure, and developing human resources, which reflects Algeria’s awareness of the growing importance of the media sector.”
Regarding the enhancement of national radio broadcasting coverage, Meziane noted that the National Broadcasting Corporation has “launched a major project to acquire approximately 550 FM transmitters of varying capacities, which will benefit several provinces and significantly improve national radio coverage, reaching nearly 95%.”
In this context, Minister Meziane emphasized that the promotion of regional media aligns with the directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, “who is committed to fostering a competitive and professional media sector that guarantees citizens’ right to truthful information while supporting comprehensive national development.”
The minister also highlighted significant efforts in media sector development through several ambitious projects, including the launch of the “DZAIRMediaCITY,” a state-of-the-art media hub designed to elevate Algeria’s audiovisual landscape. Meziane described this facility as “a comprehensive and integrated media complex that will bring together key industry players, featuring real-time broadcasting capabilities using the latest technological platforms, a large data center powered by artificial intelligence, and versatile spaces offering diverse media services compliant with international standards.”
On the issue of employing people with special needs in the media sector, Meziane reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to inclusivity, emphasizing that “the sector spares no effort in enabling this segment of society to access employment and integration without discrimination or neglect, in line with the Republic’s laws, including Article 2 of Executive Decree No. 214/14, which requires every employer to allocate 1% of job positions to individuals with special needs.”
The minister called on both public and private media institutions to “ensure greater participation of individuals with special needs in available positions and expand professional integration opportunities at both the central and regional levels.”
Regarding the Ramadan programming schedule, Meziane urged media outlets to “draw inspiration from and adhere to Algerian societal values that emphasize solidarity, cooperation, and a steadfast commitment to professional ethics and principles.”
