Minister of Communication Engages with Electronic Media Leaders to Foster Constructive Content

ALGIERS – The Minister of Communication, Mohamed Laagab, held a meeting on Wednesday with the directors and managers of electronic sites registered under the Ministry of Communication. The objective of this meeting, as outlined in a press release from the ministry, was to encourage the electronic media sector to produce more constructive and impactful content.
Held at the ministry’s headquarters, this gathering is part of a series of engagements initiated by Minister Laagab, aimed at fostering dialogue with leaders of various media establishments. The intention behind these discussions is to gain insights into their concerns and gather proposals for enhancing the electronic media landscape. The press release also indicated that similar meetings will be arranged with individuals responsible for other electronic sites.
Minister Laagab emphasized the significant role electronic media plays in modern society and highlighted that the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, attaches great importance to the electronic press, considering it as a vital platform representing the nation. He added that the state requires a robust national press as it serves as the country’s window to the world.
Furthermore, Minister Laagab indicated that he is working collaboratively with all stakeholders in the sector to formulate a comprehensive media policy based on a forward-looking approach. In this context, he emphasized the importance of building strong media institutions, emphasizing continuous training as mandated by the new organic law on information. He assured that efforts are underway to provide the necessary resources for effective training.
Regarding the domiciliation of electronic sites, Minister Laagab specified that proposals are being actively discussed with partners to ensure better protection for these sites in the digital space.
During the meeting, the leaders of electronic sites expressed their concerns and the challenges they have encountered in their work. They also expressed their appreciation for President Tebboune’s supportive stance toward electronic press.
Towards the conclusion of the meeting, Minister Laagab called upon all journalists and electronic media managers to participate vigorously in the 9th edition of the President of the Republic’s Professional Journalist Prize. This year’s edition marks a significant shift as it encompasses three themes aimed at inspiring candidates: “The New Algeria and the Question of Food and Water Security,” “The New Algeria: Empowerment of Young People and Creative Capacities,” and “Energy Security and Its Geopolitical Dimensions.” These themes are designed to encourage a diverse range of contributions and promote impactful journalism.
The gathering between the Minister of Communication and the leaders of electronic media sites marks a pivotal moment in the evolution of Algeria’s electronic press. It underscores the government’s commitment to promoting responsible journalism, fostering media professionalism, and ensuring the protection and advancement of electronic media in Algeria.
