ALGIERS- In a commemoration event marking the 67th anniversary of the launch of “the Voice of Free Algeria Radio,” Minister of Communication, Mr. Mohamed Laagab, emphasized the enduring role of Algerian media as guardians of the flame of liberation. He noted that the radio, rooted in its revolutionary past, faces new challenges, including contributing to local development.

Speaking at a conference organized by Algerian Radio in Sidi Bel Abbès, Minister Laagab stated that the spirit of the liberation war should persist as long as the media continues to play its vital role. Algerian Radio, historically a militant voice, now confronts different challenges, notably the need to align with the nation’s ambitious development programs.

Expressing admiration for the modern facilities and architecture of the new radio headquarters in Sidi Bel Abbès, Minister Laagab commended the local authorities’ efforts. He underscored the significance of ongoing training and qualification within Algerian Radio to effectively navigate and embrace modern technologies.

Mohamed Baghali, the Director General of Algerian Radio, highlighted the importance of media resistance, emphasizing its alignment with political, diplomatic, and armed resistance. He noted that oppressive powers invariably lose in the realms of information and ethics, citing the ongoing struggles against the Zionist enemy.

Baghali expressed gratitude to local authorities, particularly the Wali of Sidi Bel Abbès, for their consistent support to local media.

The Wali of Sidi Bel Abbès praised the role of media in supporting the revolutionary struggle, highlighting the significance of clandestine radio, which, despite limited resources, instilled fear among colonizers and fostered trust among Algerians.

The commemoration event included an intellectual conference titled “the Voice of Free Algeria Radio – A Model of Engaged Revolutionary Media and an Example for Resistance Media.” Attended by students, journalists, and interested citizens, the conference featured contributions from academics and media professionals reflecting on the historic significance of Algerian Radio in the liberation struggle.
