First in a Series of Regional Forums Aims to Address Challenges Facing Journalists and Foster Constructive Debate Across Algeria’s Media Landscape
Algiers, Algeria | April 15th, 2025 — On Thursday, in the coastal city of Oran, Algeria’s Minister of Communication, Mr. Mohamed Meziane, will officially inaugurate the first in a series of regional forums aimed at fostering dialogue with journalists, media professionals, and key stakeholders in the communication sector. The initiative marks a significant step toward deepening national reflection on the future of journalism and media ethics in the country.
According to a statement issued Tuesday by the Ministry of Communication, the event in Oran represents “the first of its kind”, designed to provide an open space for debate, exchange of ideas, and critical engagement with members of the national press and communication community.
“These regional encounters are intended to create a framework for inclusive and constructive discussions on the pressing issues, opportunities, and responsibilities that define the media profession today,” the ministry declared.
The Oran forum will be followed by similar gatherings across other regions of Algeria—including the East, South, and Center—ensuring nationwide participation in what is expected to become a broad and dynamic consultation process.
The initiative comes at a pivotal moment for Algeria’s media sector, which is navigating complex transformations amid the rise of digital platforms, growing demands for professional integrity, and the necessity of reinforcing journalistic standards in the face of misinformation and political pressures.
By engaging directly with the national media corps, Minister Meziane and his team aim to consolidate trust, identify concrete solutions to structural challenges, and support a renewed vision for communication in Algeria that aligns with democratic principles and public service.
