Strategic Dialogues on Legal Reforms, Media Ethics, AI Challenges, and Institutional Communication Shape the Future of Algeria’s Media Sector
Algiers, Algeria | April 26th, 2025 — In a significant move to strengthen Algeria’s media sector, Minister of Communication Mohamed Meziane is currently presiding over the third regional meeting for journalists, media professionals, and communication stakeholders, taking place this Saturday in Ouargla.
This third session, following previous meetings in Oran and Constantine, has drawn together central officials from key national media institutions, representatives of the General Directorate of Communication at the Presidency of the Republic, journalists, unionists from the southern provinces, and delegates from the regional offices of national media associations and unions.
Organized by the Ministry of Communication, today’s meeting is structured around four key workshops that tackle the pressing and strategic issues facing the sector:
-“The New Legal Framework Governing the Communication Sector and Professional Ethics,”
-“The Reality of Audiovisual, Print, and Electronic Journalism in Light of the New Challenges of Artificial Intelligence and Fifth-Generation Technologies,”
-“Institutional Communication and Its Role in Promoting Algeria’s Image,” and
-“Specialized and Continuous Training and Forecasting the Professions of the Future.”
The meeting is providing a crucial platform for dynamic exchanges between policymakers and media practitioners, with debates centered on updating regulatory frameworks, upholding journalistic ethics, adapting to the impact of AI and 5G technologies, and developing forward-looking training programs for future media careers.
Minister Mohamed Meziane, in his opening remarks, emphasized the government’s steadfast commitment to fostering a free, responsible, and professional media environment, underlining the importance of modernizing the sector in line with technological advancements while preserving Algeria’s national identity and sovereignty.
The outcomes of this gathering are expected to result in a set of recommendations that will contribute to shaping national media policies and strategies aimed at reinforcing Algeria’s communication sector at both the domestic and international levels.
This ongoing initiative confirms the state’s intent to ensure a coherent, ethical, and future-oriented media ecosystem capable of meeting the challenges of the digital era.
