Algiers, Algeria | April 28th, 2025 — In a significant step towards reinforcing the strategic partnership between Algeria and India, the Minister of State, Minister of Energy, Mines, and Renewable Energies, Mr. Mohamed Arkab, received on Monday, April 28, 2025, at the Ministry’s headquarters, Her Excellency Ms. Swati Vijay Kulkarni, Ambassador of the Republic of India to Algeria. The meeting was held in the presence of senior officials from the Ministry.
The discussions were devoted to reviewing avenues for enhancing bilateral cooperation, particularly in the vital sectors of energy, mining, renewable energies, and seawater desalination. Both parties reiterated the depth, strength, and historic nature of the ties binding Algeria and India, emphasizing their shared determination to build a forward-looking and mutually beneficial partnership.
On this occasion, Minister Arkab presented a comprehensive overview of Algeria’s sectoral development programs, highlighting the major investment opportunities available across key domains. He underscored Algeria’s openness to fostering collaboration in oil and gas exploration and production, the expansion of energy infrastructure, engineering services, and the localization of oil and gas equipment manufacturing. Additionally, he elaborated on opportunities in marketing petroleum, natural gas, and refined products.
The talks also addressed potential cooperation in the petrochemical sector, particularly in fertilizer production and phosphate transformation. Furthermore, discussions explored prospects for joint initiatives in renewable energies, strengthening electrical networks, and manufacturing related equipment. Minister Arkab expressed Algeria’s keen interest in encouraging the active participation of Indian companies in the realization and development of ongoing and future major projects within these strategic sectors.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides agreed on the necessity of enhancing coordination and establishing a structured, sustainable framework for identifying and following up on joint projects, thereby ensuring effective and results-driven bilateral cooperation.
This important meeting falls within the context of the positive momentum characterizing Algerian-Indian relations, particularly following the historic State Visit of the President of the Republic of India, Her Excellency Droupadi Murmu, to Algeria in October 2024. That visit reaffirmed the two nations’ shared political will to deepen their economic partnership and broaden prospects for cooperation across various sectors.
The encounter between Minister Arkab and Ambassador Kulkarni thus marks a decisive step forward in consolidating a dynamic and ambitious Algeria-India partnership, rooted in historical friendship and oriented towards building a prosperous future for both peoples.
