ALGIERS- In a significant step towards shaping the future of the global gas market, the Minister of Energy, Mr. Mohamed Arkab, held a crucial meeting with the Secretary General of the Forum of Gas Exporting Countries (GECF), Mr. Mohamed Hamel. The meeting, which took place on Monday in Algiers, aimed at laying the groundwork for the forthcoming 7th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the GECF, scheduled to be hosted in Algeria in 2024.

As the world grapples with energy transitions and the pursuit of cleaner fuels, the discussions between Mr. Arkab and Mr. Hamel took center stage in addressing the current state of the gas market and exploring the prospects for its future development. In a press release issued by the Ministry of Energy, both parties expressed their dedication to ensuring energy security and stability in the international gas market. The 7th GECF Summit is anticipated to serve as a pivotal gathering for influential leaders and experts in the industry, creating a strategic framework for addressing the evolving challenges and opportunities in the global gas sector.

Acknowledging the importance of knowledge and innovation in the sector, the two officials lauded the latest achievements of the GRI and explored possibilities for further strengthening its role in advancing gas-related research and technologies.

The upcoming 7th Summit is expected to serve as a critical platform for exploring innovative solutions, sustainable practices, and policy frameworks that will shape the global gas market in the years to come. It is also poised to reinforce Algeria’s position as a key player in the international energy landscape, opening doors for enhanced cooperation and economic development in the region.
