ALGIERS- During the opening of a symposium on the evaluation of the non-hydrocarbon investment promotion policy, Minister of Finance Laaziz Fayed emphasized that his sector would prioritize the evaluation of public policies through the General Inspectorate of Finance. He stated that this process would clearly focus on the optimal utilization of public resources.
Fayed highlighted the role of budgetary systems, noting that their modernization had materialized through the provisions of the Organic Law on Budgets enacted in September 2018 and effective since January 2023. He noted a qualitative leap in the formulation and execution of the state budget based on results and subject to monitoring mechanisms.
“We are convinced that only countries with strong and transparent public financial management systems are capable of providing quality and efficient public services,” asserted the Minister. He further expressed his belief that integrating good governance, effective financial management, and transparency are fundamental pillars for accelerating sustainable development and economic growth in any society.
Regarding the symposium, the Minister stated that it would provide an opportunity for a team of young cadre from the General Inspectorate of Finance to present and elucidate the approach and results achieved in evaluating the public policy for promoting non-hydrocarbon exports.
Fayed also noted that addressing this issue, which has obvious strategic significance for the country, would help identify areas of ambiguity, weaknesses, and constraints related to the diversification of the national economy in general.
