Algiers, Algeria | November 16th, 2024 — On Saturday, Mohamed Tarek Belaribi, Algeria’s Minister of Housing, Urbanism, and the City, undertook a detailed site inspection of the 10,507-unit housing project in Rahmania. This visit was part of the ongoing efforts to assess the progress of construction and ensure alignment with the government’s ambitious housing objectives. During the visit, Belaribi chaired a technical meeting with high-ranking officials and project managers to review the status of the development.
The meeting, attended by the General Director of the National Agency for Housing Improvement and Development (AADL) along with key representatives from the construction companies managing the project, provided an in-depth analysis of the project’s current progress. The discussions focused primarily on the construction timeline, with significant emphasis placed on the proactive measures being undertaken to meet the set deadlines. The Minister was briefed on the momentum of the work, highlighting the effective steps being taken to guarantee the project’s timely delivery.
A central element of the visit involved the presentation of innovative design proposals for the exterior layout of the project, which seeks to blend traditional Algerian cultural elements with contemporary urban planning. The plan includes a wide range of public amenities such as recreational spaces, sports facilities, pedestrian pathways, and dedicated lanes for cyclists and public transportation, all integrated into a design that prioritizes sustainability and enhances the quality of life for residents.
The project’s design places a strong emphasis on local identity and aesthetics, incorporating landscaping elements that reflect Algeria’s natural heritage. The minister was shown the carefully selected tree species intended to complement the environment and improve the overall visual appeal of the area, ensuring that the development maintains a connection to Algeria’s cultural roots while embracing modern urban design principles.
Throughout the visit, Belaribi stressed the importance of integrating cutting-edge planning strategies in new urban developments. He emphasized that such projects should go beyond merely addressing housing needs, also prioritizing sports facilities, public services, and commercial spaces. He underscored the need for a balanced and thoughtful approach to urban planning, ensuring that all components of the development are functionally connected and designed to meet the needs of both present and future generations.
The minister concluded his visit with an on-site inspection of the construction works, personally overseeing the progress. He reiterated the critical need to maintain strict adherence to both the project’s timeline and quality standards, instructing the teams to refine their engineering plans and ensure that the development remains adaptable to the future demands of residents. His directives focused on ensuring that the project does not merely meet immediate housing needs but creates a sustainable and vibrant urban environment.
