Algiers, Algeria | May 22, 2024 — Minister of Transport, Mohamed El Habib Zahana, conducted an inspection visit to the Port of Algiers on Tuesday, where he inspected the old maritime station and the Bordj Badji Mokhtar vessel. He provided instructions to enhance service quality and reduce baggage processing times in preparation for the 2024 summer season, according to a statement from the ministry.
Accompanied by the Director General of Customs, Major General Abdelhafid Bakhouche, and in the presence of the CEO of the Algiers Port Services Group (SERPORT) and ministry officials, the inspection aimed to prepare for the upcoming summer season and improve passenger transport conditions, particularly for members of the national community residing abroad.
During the visit, Mr. Zahana inspected the old maritime station and instructed for its entrance, ticket counters, and facade to be redesigned to provide a more aesthetically pleasing view.
The Minister also inspected the Bordj Badji Mokhtar vessel, operated by the National Company of Passenger Maritime Transport (ENTMV), focusing on reception, direction, catering, accommodations, lounge, and cockpit.
In a meeting with the vessel’s crew, Mr. Zahana stressed the need to “enhance service quality, safety, integrity, and hygiene standards to attract more passengers and provide services that meet their expectations. This involves delivering a new vision for Algerian maritime transport and implementing stringent measures to reduce passenger and baggage processing times,” the statement added.
Finally, the Minister and accompanying delegation inspected the passenger waiting area.
