ALGIERS- Following a meeting of the Council of Ministers on Sunday, the President of the Republic has decided to initiate an operation to rehouse victims of the recent severe weather. The Minister of the Interior and Urban Planning, Brahim Merad, has confirmed that “the operation is scheduled for today.”
The measure, which has a 48-hour application deadline, will initially focus on those who have suffered significant losses. Merad has stated that the operation will begin with those whose homes have been completely destroyed. Those who have experienced subsidence will also receive state aid. The minister has assured that all victims have been identified and registered.
Merad has emphasized the government and local authorities’ continued efforts to improve schooling conditions for students while protecting citizens and property.
Minister of Solidarity, Kaouther Krikou, has also expressed her solidarity with the victims of the floods in the region and other parts of the country. Krikou has confirmed that the first measures taken in response to the situation include the establishment of a “cell of psychological and social care for the needy.” She has emphasized the importance of personal follow-up to ensure that emergency aid is provided to those affected.
The government and local authorities are committed to providing support to those affected by the severe weather. The operation to rehouse victims is a crucial step in this process, and the government will continue to work tirelessly to improve the lives of those affected.
Census of damaged boats
During their visit to the wilaya of Tipaza, two ministers paid their respects to the family of Bouazza Mohamed Abderaouf, a 9-year-old boy who tragically lost his life due to the collapse of a nearby stadium wall in the commune of Khemisti. The ministers conveyed the condolences of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to the grieving family.
The port in Khemisti was also affected by the recent bad weather, prompting a preliminary damage assessment by Ahmed Badani’s team last week. Fateh Benkhlifa, an official at the Ministry of Fisheries and Fish Production, announced that a local commission, supervised by the wali of Tipaza, has been established to conduct a census of all boats damaged by the inclement weather.
The commission’s mandate also includes identifying the equipment and professionals at the port of Khemisti and the docking place of the commune of Fouka. Benkhlifa emphasized that the commission is responsible for defining the criteria for the allocation of benefits to fishermen.
According to Benkhlifa, the census operation’s progress rate has exceeded 60%, and it will be completed as soon as possible within the set deadlines. The head of the department of Ahmed Badani concluded that the commission’s efforts are crucial in ensuring that the affected fishermen receive the necessary support and assistance.
