Algiers, Algeria | June 21st, 2024 — Laïd Rebiga, Minister of Mudjahidin and Right Holders, alongside Minister of Communication Mohamed Laagab, visited the esteemed moudjahid (freedom fighter), Mohamed Hadj Hamou, at his residence in Algiers. The visit aimed to inquire about his health and extend Eid Al-Adha greetings, honoring his contributions to Algeria’s independence.

Presidential Directive

Rebiga highlighted that the visit was conducted “in accordance with the instructions of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to provide the interest and attention deserved by the symbols of the Revolution, its surviving leaders, the mudjahidin (freedom fighters), and the widows of chouhada (martyrs),” as per a communiqué from the Ministry of Mudjahidin and Right Holders. This reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to honoring those who fought for Algeria’s freedom.

During the visit, Rebiga emphasized the state’s dedication to caring for the moudjahidine, using all available resources. He stressed the importance of educating younger generations about the sacrifices made by these freedom fighters, ensuring their legacy continues to inspire future leaders of Algeria.

Rebiga and Mohamed Hadj Hamou spent time reminiscing about the significant events and symbols of the Algerian Revolution. As Algeria approaches the celebration of Independence Day, marking the recovery of national sovereignty, these reflections are particularly poignant. They serve as a reminder of the struggles and triumphs that led to Algeria’s independence.
