ALGIERS- Several Moroccan websites have recently circulated a misleading story, asserting that Morocco has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first Arab country to manufacture drones. However, upon closer examination, the truth behind this narrative unveils a starkly different reality.
A thorough fact-check reveals that the image featured in the purported news article does not depict a Moroccan-manufactured drone. Rather, it shows a drone belonging to the Swiss Air Force, with the Moroccan flag digitally superimposed onto it. This egregious act of deception aims to falsely attribute the achievement of drone manufacturing to Morocco, misleading readers and distorting the truth.
Contrary to the false claims perpetuated by Moroccan media, Algeria has been at the forefront of drone technology development in the region. As early as 2016, Algeria had announced the successful development of its first prototypes of military drones. This historical precedent underscores Algeria’s pioneering efforts and significant strides in advancing drone technology, showcasing its leadership in the field.
Further investigation has revealed that the Moroccan media sourced this misinformation from the Zionist news channel i24. Subsequently, i24 removed the article from its website, raising concerns about the credibility and underlying agenda behind the dissemination of such false narratives.
In conclusion, the spread of misinformation regarding Morocco’s alleged drone manufacturing achievement highlights the persistent efforts of its propaganda machine to promote false narratives and overshadow the genuine accomplishments of Algeria. By fabricating claims and manipulating images, Moroccan media outlets attempt to project an image of technological advancement and innovation that is not supported by reality.
