Mobile telephony: Mobilis in the lead followed by Djezzy, Ooredoo

ALGIERS-  Mobilis achieved outstanding successes thanks to the adopted strategic vision aimed at enhancing its competitiveness, the effective strategies and the inspiring package of measures and procedures that were applied, the operational efficiency it enjoys in its operations, as well as the experience and efficiency of its management team and employees.

In this vein, the operator continues to assert itself as the leader in mobile telephony in Algeria. Indeed, the company, at its head the young Chawki Boukhazani, is experiencing a real revival of vitality, which has resulted in an increase in its turnover.

In fact, the mobile operator “Mobilis” has just wrapped up an exceptional year in the history of mobile telephony in Algeria, with a turnover of 144 billion dinars in 2022, compared to 2021.

Besides,  Mobilis achieved a turnover of 36.7 billion dinars in the first quarter of 2023, compared to 32.5 billion dinars in the same period of 2022, an increase of 13% in one year, according to a press release from the public operator.

Mobilis also achieved positive earnings without interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA), thus increasing by 15% to reach 16.6 billion dinars till  March 31, 2023.

It also saw a significant 7% increase in subscribers, representing 1.4 million new subscribers between the first quarter of 2023 and the same period in 2022, bringing the total number to 21.7 million subscribers.

The incumbent operator, therefore, comes out far ahead of the other two operators; Djezzy (+4.7%), while Ooredoo remains behind with only 1.4% growth.

In a related context, Mobilis remains in the lead in terms of subscribers to GSM, 3G, and 4G networks as of December 31, 2022, with 21.09 million subscribers, followed by Djezzy (15.17 million) and Ooredoo (12.74 million).

The Mobilis operator, thus, recorded an increase in its number of GSM, 3G, and 4G subscribers, with 21.09 million subscribers at the end of 2022, compared to 19.82 million at the same period in 2021, noted the report.

It is followed by the operator Djezzy with 15.17 million subscribers in 2022 (14.59 million in 2021) and Ooredoo with 12.74 million subscribers on December 31, 2022 (12.59 million in the same period of 2021).

Mobilis’ market share was estimated at 43.04% at the end of December 31, 2022 (42.18%) during the same period of 2021, that of Djezzy was estimated at 30.96% in 2022 (31.04% in 2021), and that of Ooredoo at 25.99% in 2022 (26.78% in 2021).

“We have been able to live up to the trust placed in our company by our support for various important events that Algeria has experienced during this year,” affirmed the CEO of Mobilis, Chawki Boukhazani.

He declared that the results for the first quarter of 2023 “confirm the efficiency and performance of the company by maintaining the same growth model achieved the previous year.”

“These figures are the result of the implementation of a strategy aimed at improving the quality and modernity performance of the network in terms of coverage and speed,” he added.
