More than 1330 local medicines treated against 337 imported medicines in 2021

The Intersectoral Medicines Committee processed 1,333 local medicines against 337 imported medicines in 2021, said Wednesday in Algiers the Minister of Pharmaceutical Industry, Abderrahmane Lotfi Djamel Benbahmed.

Speaking at the opening of the 16th edition of the International Pharmacy Fair “SIPHAL 2022” at the Exhibition Center in Algiers, the Minister said that the Intersectoral Committee for Medicines, set up in early 2021 with the National Agency for pharmaceuticals (ANPP), processed 1,333 local drugs against 337 imported drugs.

To ensure the availability of drugs, strengthen self-sufficiency in pharmaceutical products and achieve 70% coverage of national needs in local products, “investors in the pharmaceutical industry sector are oriented towards value-added products”, said the Minister.

Steps have been taken to ensure the supply of medicines to pharmacies, in particular pharmaceutical products used in the treatment of coronavirus (Covid-19), recalled Benbahmed.
