Moroccan Analyst Badr Laidoudi Criticizes Morocco’s Approval for Zionist Military Base

Algiers, Algeria | June 4th, 2024 — Badr Laidoudi, a Moroccan political analyst based in Spain, has vocally criticized the Moroccan government’s recent approval for the establishment of the first Zionist military base on Moroccan soil. Laidoudi views this decision as a direct threat to Algerian national security and a strategic maneuver to exert pressure on Spain.
In a phone interview from Spain on the “Dayf Al Doualia” program for Algeria International Radio on Tuesday, Laidoudi revealed that “Spanish newspapers reported that the approved location for the Zionist military base is situated between Melilla and Algeria.” He perceives this as a provocative act towards Algeria, threatening its national security, especially given Algeria’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, as evidenced by its stances within the UN Security Council in defending Palestinian rights and condemning Zionist actions.
Laidoudi further noted that “Spanish newspapers consider the announcement of this Zionist military zone near Melilla a direct threat to Spanish national security.” He emphasized that Morocco is leveraging its close relationship with the Zionist entity for strategic gains.
According to Laidoudi, “Morocco is prepared to assist the Zionist entity and collaborate in military, intelligence, and security spheres, including the transfer of weapons and troops to address challenges facing the Zionist entity.” He also highlighted the timing of the ministerial council, raising suspicions as it occurred just hours after Netanyahu’s remarks on the Western Sahara issue, wherein he presented a map incorporating the Western Sahara.
Laidoudi pointed out that “the abrupt announcement of the ministerial meeting was aimed at revealing a government reshuffle amidst scandals facing the Moroccan government both domestically and internationally.” He added that the meeting’s agenda was diverted from internal matters to discussing broader issues, including political appointments and the approval of the Zionist military base in Morocco.
