ALGIERS- The Moroccan football club RS Berkane, which was scheduled to compete against USM Alger at the 5th of July Stadium on Sunday evening, ultimately declined to participate in the match due to their attempt to wear jerseys displaying political propaganda, an action that contravenes the regulations set forth by both CAF and FIFA.
Initially, upon their arrival at the stadium under normal circumstances, the Moroccan players refused to exit the locker rooms and eventually left the stadium before the match commenced.
RS Berkane’s attempted maneuver was a blatant breach of both CAF and FIFA regulations, which strictly prohibit the display of political advertisements on jerseys.
The incident unfolded amid escalating tensions regarding the Moroccan club’s plan to feature a politically charged map on their jerseys. This decision was strongly condemned and deemed unacceptable by Algerian authorities and football officials.
Despite attempts to resolve the situation, RS Berkane’s refusal to adhere to the regulations resulted in the match being canceled.
This occurrence further emphasizes the importance of maintaining the integrity of football and preventing its exploitation for political ends. RS Berkane’s actions have been met with criticism and condemnation, underscoring the necessity of strictly adhering to established regulations governing the sport.
