ALGIERS- In a startling revelation following his arrest in Béchar by Algerian People’s National Army (ANP) detachments, Moroccan drug trafficker Abdelghani Chenna has confessed to the involvement and complicity of the Moroccan Makhzen and intelligence services in the production and smuggling of drugs to Algeria.
According to the confessed narcotrafficker, Abdelghani Chenna, a 33-year-old from the Bouârfa region, “the Makhzen and Moroccan intelligence services are involved and complicit in the operation of drug production and smuggling to Algeria.”
Chenna further elaborated that “the individual overseeing these operations, in collusion with Moroccan intelligence led by Hammouchi, paves the way for the passage of drugs cultivated twice a year in the Ketama mountains, attempting to smuggle them across the southwest borders on donkeys.”
Dubbed “Abdelghani Leghlid” (the big one), the arrested Moroccan expounded that “difficult social conditions, the high cost of living, along with the widespread poverty and unemployment, encourage young Moroccans to engage in drug trafficking to Algeria.”
Speaking on the Makhzen’s policies, Chenna lamented “the dismal daily life marked by gas shortages and price hikes,” and highlighted how “the Makhzen regime suppresses and persecutes the Moroccan people, arresting anyone who denounces normalization with the Zionist entity.”
He recounted instances of dissent, stating, “None of us recognize normalization with the Zionists, and we, in Bouarfa, took to the streets to protest and express our refusal, but we were beaten, and some of us were imprisoned.”
Chenna also disclosed, “Among my neighbors, there are Royal Army officers who confirmed they were against this normalization and would flee if given the chance.”
The arrest of the Moroccan drug trafficker in Béchar, with 207 kg of processed cannabis and a firearm in his possession, underscores the ANP’s ongoing efforts to combat cross-border criminal activities.
