ALGIERS- The media cell affiliated with the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has swiftly garnered recognition from followers and experts alike for its professional work during the recent international friendly tournament held in Algeria from March 18 to 26. The FAF media cell achieved a remarkable breakthrough in a very short period, becoming the talk of the Algerian streets due to its outstanding coverage of the national team’s activities at the Sidi Moussa training camp, from the arrival of Yacine Brahimi’s teammates on the first day to the final match against South Africa in the FIFA international friendly tournament.
Under the leadership of journalist Saïd Fellak, the FAF media cell has exceeded all expectations, producing globally acclaimed videos that have garnered immense praise and record-breaking views on various social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. The quality of their work has set a new standard, with neighboring countries, including Morocco, taking notice.
Moroccan fans, in particular, have expressed admiration for the FAF’s media efforts, urging the Royal Moroccan Football Federation to emulate the professionalism demonstrated by the Algerian Football Federation. They have criticized the outdated and inadequate media coverage provided by the Moroccan media team, especially in comparison to the dynamic and engaging content produced by the FAF.
One Moroccan fan tweeted on the “X” website, saying: “Honestly, I’m impressed by the work of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) in terms of communication. It’s high-quality and professional work, and I truly hope that the Moroccan federation follows suit, especially regarding media and communication.”
Demand for Change Spurs Trend in Morocco: “#Change_Media_Team_Is_A_Legitimate_Demand”
In response to the FAF’s success, Moroccan fans have launched a hashtag on Twitter, Change_Media_Team_Is_A_Legitimate_Demand, demanding a change in the Moroccan media team led by Fouzi Lekjaa. They argue that the current team’s coverage is outdated and fails to keep pace with daily news updates, often limited to sharing photos of training sessions without providing comprehensive coverage of the national team’s activities. Moroccan fans believe that the Moroccan national team, which reached the semifinals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, deserves professional media coverage similar to that provided by the Algerian Football Federation.
The hashtag quickly gained traction in Morocco, becoming the number one trend on Twitter. Moroccans have widely shared videos produced by the FAF media cell, showcasing various aspects of the Algerian national team’s activities, from training sessions to visits to historical sites in Algeria.
Criticism of Moroccan Football Federation’s Media Services
Some Moroccans have directed harsh criticism at the Moroccan Football Federation and its president, Fouzi Lekjaa, for the poor media services provided by the national team’s media team. They describe the service as inadequate compared to other countries, emphasizing the need for daily coverage and engagement with fans.
One Moroccan fan lamented the failure of the Moroccan Football Federation to effectively market the Moroccan national team, especially during the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where the team’s image was not properly showcased. Another emphasized the importance of daily coverage, including behind-the-scenes content and interviews, to keep fans engaged and informed.
He posted on his account, “The media communication team of the national team provides very poor service. Every country in the world provides daily coverage of the national team, bringing fans closer to daily behind-the-scenes, interviews, training sessions, and news.” Another tweet read, “It’s the fourth World Cup in Qatar, and they couldn’t market it properly.”
