Algiers, Algeria | December 13th, 2024 — The Moroccan Free Army (MFA) has extended its congratulations to the Syrian people for “their triumph in toppling Bashar al-Assad’s regime”, presenting this development as “a broader victory for global resistance movements”. Hammouchi raised concerns over military figures supporting coups and destabilizing institutions, which Berrid rejected outright. Intelligence forces have since arrested several high-ranking officers, including Colonel Adel Mansouri and Abdulhamid Rouafdi, while further detentions are ongoing.
The MFA’s announcement aligns with a surge in regional resistance, including a statement from the Polisario Front regarding the militarization of Sahrawi territories. As Morocco prepares to host the Africa Cup of Nations, these growing tensions underline the escalating pressures on its political and military establishment.
