ALGIERS- The Moroccan journalist Dounia Filali has made a bold vow to expose the names of French personalities who are complicit with the Makhzen in persecuting her and her husband. Filali confirmed that the French judiciary illegally canceled a crucial hearing, following the facts published in the investigation of the “Jorge team”, which revealed the complicity of figures from the Zionist entity and France with Morocco in persecuting her and her husband, journalist Adnan Filali.

Taking to her Twitter account, Filali expressed her disappointment in the French judiciary, stating that “preserving bilateral relations (with Morocco) is more important than the integrity of justice” in France. She went on to threaten that she would start revealing the names and secret documents that incriminate French officials complicit with the Moroccan regime, after what she described as “Emmanuel Macron officials” prevented her and her husband from resorting to justice “in order to preserve bilateral relations with Morocco.”

Filali’s determination to expose the truth is commendable, and her efforts to hold those responsible for the persecution of her and her husband accountable are admirable. It is essential that justice is served and the integrity of the judiciary is upheld, regardless of any political or diplomatic considerations.

Adnane and Dounia Filali and many other Moroccan activists are facing persecution and harassment from the Moroccan regime. Adnane and Dounia Filali are journalists and human rights activists who uncovered evidence of corruption, abuse of power within the Moroccan government, and Zionist penetration into the country. They have been targeted by the Moroccan Makhzen for their outspoken views.

Present on French soil as political refugees benefiting from UNHCR protection in China (under strict mandate Articles 5 and 6 of the 1951 Geneva Convention) following the persecution they are still suffering at the hands of the Moroccan regime and its intelligence services due to their journalistic activities, the Moroccan journalists launched an appeal to the French president, Emmanuel Macron, and government, urging them to assume full responsibility and abide by the 1951 Geneva Convention following the Makhzen regime’s cross-border repression imposed on them with a view to stifling their voices, but in vain!  They are still deprived of their political and human refugee rights (care, housing, financial aid, etc.). Besides, all the complaints they lodged relating to accusations of defamation, threats of beheadings, death threats, etc. were rejected for no logical reason. All their requests for a lawyer were denied.

In fact, they have been living through unprecedented persecution for two years, which has worrying psychological and physical consequences for their health. The constant pressure, threats, and uncertainty about their legal status and future generate intense stress that affects their mental well-being and their ability to continue their work as journalists and human rights defenders.

In addition to the psychological impacts, the situation of Dounia and Adnane Filali also has negative consequences for their physical health. The deprivation of medical care, housing, and financial assistance as political refugees in France worsens their state of health and makes them even more vulnerable to persecution from the Moroccan regime.

The dramatic consequences of persecution on the mental and physical health of victims underline the importance of setting up support and assistance mechanisms adapted to the specific needs of political refugees and human rights defenders.
