ALGIERS- The Coordination of Former Warriors, Military Veterans, and their Families has declared plans to organize a series of protests in several Moroccan cities on Wednesday, December 27th. The demonstrations aim to “defend the rights of this segment for a decent living and to restore their dignity,” according to a statement from the coordination.

Retired military personnel and former warriors in Morocco are grappling with challenging social conditions due to the meager pensions they receive. This struggle is exacerbated by the economic difficulties and the social crisis affecting all Moroccans, driven by rising prices, increased cost of living, and soaring healthcare expenses.

It is noteworthy that this group, estimated to be around 200,000 individuals according to some estimates, has been actively organizing various protests and demonstrations for years. These initiatives have taken place not only in the capital, Rabat, but also in different cities across Morocco.

The decision to resume protests comes against the backdrop of the ongoing economic challenges faced by military retirees. The veterans are seeking to highlight their grievances and advocate for improved living conditions, emphasizing their contributions to the nation’s defense during their active service.

In recent years, retired military personnel have been at the forefront of advocating for their rights and pressing the government to address their concerns. The meager pensions, when coupled with the economic difficulties faced by all citizens, have prompted this segment of society to voice their demands for better financial and social support.
