International Community Urged to Intervene to End These Heinous Crimes
Algiers, Algeria | February 17th, 2025 — Far from serving as mere correctional facilities, prisons in Morocco have descended into hellish chambers where human dignity is buried alive. Rampant overcrowding, systematic starvation, brutal psychological and physical torture, medical neglect, and the horrifying reality of human organ trafficking have turned these so-called detention centers into sites of unparalleled suffering.
A former detainee, who endured firsthand the nightmare of Moroccan prisons, broke his silence in a social media testimony, exposing the appalling conditions behind bars. He described these institutions not as places of rehabilitation but as graveyards for human dignity, where prisoners exist in a perpetual state of torment. “This reality does not merely destroy the lives of those incarcerated but also shatters any hope of reintegration into society,” he asserted.
A Nightmare of Overcrowding: Breathing Becomes a Luxury
The sheer congestion in Morocco’s prisons has created living conditions akin to a dystopian horror scene. In cells designed to hold a handful of inmates, more than 63 individuals are crammed into suffocating spaces where fresh air is a luxury. The ex-detainee recounted how prisoners sleep on the cold, filthy floors, crammed against toilet doors, inhaling the stench of human waste. Others are left with no option but to stand for hours on end due to the lack of space. “This is not a scene from a horror movie,” he lamented, “but the daily reality inside Moroccan prisons, where suffocation, despair, and the deafening cries of suffering define existence.”
Starvation as a Weapon of Control
Hunger in these prisons is not merely an unfortunate circumstance—it is a deliberate weapon wielded against inmates. The former prisoner revealed that the meager meals provided are insufficient even for a child, forcing many inmates to sell their personal belongings or resort to stealing from their fellow prisoners just to secure a morsel of food. “Starvation is a constant companion in Moroccan prisons,” he stated. “It is another layer of the psychological and physical torment designed to break the human spirit.”
Medical Neglect: A Silent Execution
Healthcare in Moroccan prisons is virtually nonexistent, a damning reality that has led to the untimely deaths of numerous inmates. The ex-detainee disclosed that prisoners suffering from severe illnesses such as tuberculosis and AIDS are left untreated, denied the necessary medication and professional care. “Doctors are rarely available, and essential medicines are almost impossible to obtain,” he said, underscoring that prisoners often die in silence, their suffering ignored by the very system entrusted with their care. “No one hears their screams, no one answers their desperate pleas for help.”
A Culture of Violence and Institutional Corruption
Violence is not merely present—it is the governing law inside Moroccan prisons. Inmates are forced to engage in brutal fights over food, water, and even a few inches of space to rest. Yet, rather than preventing such savagery, prison authorities reportedly exploit and exacerbate these conditions. According to the whistleblower, certain guards demand bribes and extort inmates for financial gain, while others turn a blind eye to the horrors unfolding around them. “The very institution meant to maintain order has become complicit in perpetuating this nightmare,” he condemned.
Human Organ Trafficking: The Most Heinous Crime of All
Perhaps the most shocking revelation from the former prisoner’s testimony is the clandestine trade of human organs occurring within Morocco’s prison system. In his exposé, he referenced the situation in Fez prison, describing it as a “crime against humanity” requiring urgent international intervention. He asserted that the violations extend beyond human rights abuses and into the realm of organized crimes involving corruption, murder, and the illicit trade of human body parts.
“The world cannot turn a blind eye to these atrocities any longer,” he urged. “The Moroccan prison system has devolved into a brutal, lawless zone where not only human rights are trampled, but lives are actively and systematically destroyed.”
