Algiers, Algeria | October 16th, 2024 — As Morocco faces widespread public opposition to normalization agreements with the Zionist entity, the regime intensifies its efforts to strengthen ties with the occupying state. The latest move is a petition submitted to the Moroccan parliament, proposing the granting of Moroccan citizenship to Jews, while a Zionist soldier from the occupation army has been given a role in a Moroccan television series, in an attempt to sanitize the image of those responsible for atrocities against Palestinians.
The Moroccan Front for Supporting Palestine and Opposing Normalization condemned this petition as a “betrayal of the Moroccan people,” labeling it a treacherous act that only serves the interests of a few “mercenaries” influenced by Zionist forces. The front, a coalition of over 20 anti-normalization organizations, warned that such a proposal undermines Morocco’s sovereignty by granting citizenship to individuals connected to an army notorious for war crimes and genocide against Palestinians, as documented by international courts.
In a sharply worded statement, the front emphasized that this petition, introduced at a time when Zionist violence against Palestinians is ongoing, is a blatant affront to the sentiments of Moroccans and a betrayal of the blood spilled by Palestinians. It vowed to resist this move, which it views as an attempt to infiltrate and distort Moroccan society through Zionist influence, by organizing a variety of protests and legal actions to demonstrate that such measures do not represent the will of the Moroccan people.
The petition not only seeks to grant Moroccan citizenship to all Jews of Moroccan descent who had previously renounced it, as well as to their descendants, but also urges the Moroccan government to restore the economic, financial, and cultural rights that the Jewish community allegedly lost when they collectively left the country.
The Moroccan Observatory for Anti-Normalization echoed these concerns, stating that the petition for Jewish descendants’ citizenship is part of a broader agenda to “Zionize” Morocco’s state institutions and public policies. It also condemned the involvement of a Zionist soldier of Moroccan origin in a national television series, noting that she had received a Moroccan identification card after the normalization of relations between Morocco and the Zionist entity in December 2020.
The observatory highlighted the dangerous implications of this television role, emphasizing that portraying a Zionist officer in a show broadcast to Moroccan families serves to glamorize the Zionist entity at a time when it is engaged in genocidal warfare against Palestinians and Lebanese, and is targeting Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
According to the observatory, the public broadcaster’s decision to feature the Zionist soldier, funded by public money, is a direct betrayal of the Moroccan people, who have persistently participated in protests against Zionist war crimes and normalization efforts. The statement further described this media move as a deeper betrayal of the Palestinian cause, even more heinous than the crimes being committed against the Palestinian people.
The rapid pace of normalization between Morocco and the Zionist entity continues, despite widespread public opposition. Many fear that the regime’s push for closer ties with the Zionist entity is not only compromising Morocco’s sovereignty but also aligning the kingdom with Zionist ambitions in Africa. These concerns grow as the regime pushes forward with steps that many consider reckless, with potentially disastrous consequences for Morocco’s future.
