Algiers, Algeria- In a recent development that has stirred debate across North Africa, the Moroccan regime’s rejection of Algerian aid has led experts to question its motives and intentions. According to Algerian legal expert Dr. Idris Fazili, speaking exclusively to Western Sahara 24, this refusal highlights a “moral dilemma” within the Moroccan government and represents a missed opportunity for improved relations between the two neighboring nations.

Dr. Fazili elaborated on the significance of this rejection, stating, “It appears that the Moroccan leadership wishes to prevent their oppressed citizens from connecting with the free world and learning about Algeria’ support for the oppressed. Additionally, the regime seeks to shield its people from discovering Algeria’s potential and solidarity with those in need. Furthermore, the regime aims to maintain control by preventing the Moroccan population from escaping the influence of the extensive propaganda directed against Algeria, exposing the falsehoods of Moroccan propaganda, and debunking their claims. This is why the paid Moroccan media is regarded as a force, influencing the minds of the Moroccan populace.”

Dris Attia, a professor of political science and international relations, echoed these sentiments in a statement to Western Sahara 24. He opined, “I believe that this matter is related to a moral and ethical dilemma that the Makhzen regime is experiencing.” He recalled King Mohammed VI’ speeches, which had previously emphasized Morocco’s policy of extending a hand of friendship to Algeria. However, the rejection of Algerian aid in the wake of a natural disaster has exposed the regime’s true colors and arrogance. Attia contended that the regime is willing to prioritize its “political pride” over the suffering of the Moroccan people, demonstrating its inability to handle natural disasters and its confusion in diplomatic relations, particularly with neighboring countries like Algeria.

The rejection of Algerian aid by the Moroccan regime has sparked a broader conversation about the political dynamics in North Africa and the complexities of regional relations. It has raised questions about the Makhzen’s true intentions, its commitment to diplomacy, and the welfare of its citizens in times of crisis.
