Algiers, Algeria | December 19th, 2024 — In an unprecedented and disgraceful move, Moroccan authorities have extradited a 21-year-old Palestinian resistance fighter, Nassim Khalibat, to the Zionist entity. This shameful act of collaboration has sparked outrage across the Arab world and beyond, with critics condemning it as a blatant betrayal of Morocco’s historic support for the Palestinian cause.
Khalibat, detained in January 2023 at Marrakesh Airport under a red notice from the Zionist authorities, was accused of allegedly planting an explosive device near the Ministry of Health offices in Nazareth in 2021. Despite the absence of any extradition treaty with the Zionist entity, Morocco proceeded with this abhorrent handover, marking a dark chapter in its foreign policy.
Betraying Palestine, Serving Occupation
Zionist police publicly praised the extradition, calling it a “first-of-its-kind operation” and a testament to Morocco’s increasing alignment with their oppressive agenda. “This collaborative success showcases unprecedented international cooperation,” they gloated in a statement. The extradition was facilitated by the Zionist intelligence services and Morocco’s judicial authorities, raising grave questions about Rabat’s complicity in the repression of Palestinian resistance.
The charges against Khalibat, according to the Zionist narrative, date back to 2021, when he and two others, Ali and Jaafar, allegedly orchestrated a bombing targeting a health ministry office in Nazareth. Following the incident, Khalibat reportedly fled, seeking refuge in Dubai, Turkey, and ultimately Morocco. Instead of offering him protection as a defender of justice and freedom, Moroccan authorities arrested him and handed him over to his oppressors.
Outrage and Condemnation
Human rights advocates and civil society organizations in Morocco have vehemently condemned this betrayal. The Moroccan Coalition for Human Rights Organizations, among others, pleaded with Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch to prevent the extradition, calling it a violation of Morocco’s principles and its moral duty to support the Palestinian struggle.
“This decision is nothing short of a stab in the back to every Palestinian fighting for freedom,” a coalition spokesperson declared. “Morocco has abandoned its role as a defender of justice and aligned itself with an apartheid regime that thrives on the suffering of Palestinians.”
The decision has sparked fury among pro-Palestinian activists, who view it as a dangerous precedent that undermines international norms against extraditing individuals to occupying powers.
Complicity with Oppression
Morocco’s actions have exposed its increasingly complicit relationship with the Zionist entity, particularly following its normalization of ties in 2020 under the shameful Abraham Accords. While Moroccan officials have sought to justify normalization as a means of fostering economic and diplomatic ties, this extradition has revealed the sinister price of such alliances.
By facilitating the extradition of a Palestinian resistance fighter, Morocco has effectively chosen to side with the oppressors, abandoning its moral obligations and tainting its historic legacy of support for Palestine.
The Khalibat case sets a chilling precedent, not only for Morocco but for the broader region. If Arab nations succumb to Zionist pressure and betray those who fight for freedom, they risk eroding the solidarity that has long defined the Palestinian struggle. Morocco’s actions serve as a stark warning of the consequences of prioritizing alliances with an apartheid regime over the principles of justice and human dignity.
This disgraceful act must not go unchallenged. Moroccan authorities must be held accountable for their betrayal of Palestinian resistance and their complicity in the oppression of a people fighting for their fundamental rights. Khalibat’s extradition is a stain on Morocco’s reputation and a betrayal that the Arab world will not forget.
